 Dental Health Insurance

There are different ways to make sure that your teeth stay strong and healthy.  You can add dental health benefits to your existing health insurance policy, purchase a separate health insurance policy for your teeth, or become a member of a dental discount group.

Adding dental health benefits to your insurance policy only raises your premium a small amount and gives you the ease of bundling your insurance together.  It is normally cheaper for someone to purchase a group or family dental plan than an individual dental plan.  Dentists are rewarded by insurance companies for keeping their patients teeth in good care and doing their job.

You can purchase separate dental health insurance through an individual plan, which can provide benefits through indemnity coverage or a Preferred Provider Organization model.  Typically, a Preferred Provider Organization plan is more affordable, but only covers you to visit someone in the network provided by the insurance company.  This tends to not be a problem with dental health insurance, because people do not usually see more than one dentist.  If people did need to see a separate dentist they could get a referral from their dentist in the network.

A dental discount group gives people discounts on their dental care.  It allows people to save up to 50% on their dental needs, but people can only see participating dentists.  This type of dental option is not a form of insurance, but just offers discounts for those who either cannot afford insurance or have been dropped from their current insurance policy. Discount plans are just about always cheaper than dental health insurance.
